FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHERE SHOULD I TAKE MY EYE EXAM?

Technically anywhere. Sometimes, even if the code of ethics of optometrists prohibits it, it can be difficult to obtain the prescription following an exam. Remember that they *have* to give it to you if you want it. On the other hand, it is much easier in the big chains. Or even at the clinique des yeux de Laval à Ste-Rose. Why? Because these professionals do not sell glasses.

CAN I KEEP MY FRAMES?

Sure. Why not? it’ll be cheaper for you! But, are required to advise you that there is a risk of breakage when removing and inserting the lenses in the frame or during adjustment. It's very rare, but it does happen sometimes. Of course, we will find a solution if this is the case. However, we reserve the right of refusal if we deem it impossible or too risky to use.

IS PORTES ORANGE OPENED AT ALL TIMES?

Our headquarters Les Portes Orange is located in the Mile End at 160 St-Viateur suite 404. It is opened from Monday to Friday. An appointment is necessary: 514-303-4315

IS MY PRESCRIPTION STILL VALID?

For your prescription to be valid, it must:

  • Be less than two years old
  • Must be signed and dated by the optometrist
  • It can come from another country or province, as long as the two conditions listed above are met.

It's THE most frequently asked question. Whatever your financial situation, we'll be happy to welcome you. Our mission remains the same: to make the purchase of eyewear accessible to everyone! Rest assured, you're not taking anyone's place. On the contrary, you're helping to fund community organizations in your area.

DO YOU HAVE SUNGLASSES?

Yes, our sunglasses are just as inexpensive as our regular glasses. What's more, they're available with all prescriptions.

DO YOU SELL USED FRAMES?

No. We only sell new frames and lenses. We are able to sell for less because we use our knowledge and the laws of the market to our advantage to offer you excellent value for your money.

No. We chose not to have any, to keep our operating costs as low as possible and pass on the savings to our customers. That's how we've been able to keep our base prices unchanged since 2007.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

(visit our other sections if you're on social assistance or if you have kids 17 and under)

Our frames are $69, the same price since 2007. For lenses, it depends. Since there are several particularities to the prescriptions, this prevents us from answering with precision, as we explain in in this blog post. We never do deals and special offers since our prices are low every day. We see ourselves as a sort of safety net. For this reason, we always find an affordable solution for your budget and according to your needs.

DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

If you look at our schedule, you will see which service points require an appointment. Just call the number on the schedule. For walk-in service points, simply show up within the indicated time slot. No need to arrive first, we'll see everyone!

DO YOU HAVE CONTACT LENSES?

Unfortunately no. That would require too much equipment for mobile opticians!

DO YOU ACCEPT EYEWEAR DONATIONS?

We have a partnership with Optométristes Sans Frontières. You can give us your old glasses and we'll be happy to pass them on to them for use in various humanitarian missions.

WHY ARE THERE NO DATES ON YOUR SCHEDULE?

Normally, we have a weekly schedule! Same day, same time, same place every week. However, we advise you to always take a look at the schedule before showing up as some service points have different schedules. In such cases, the dates are indicated.
