Our fire team is growing again! In fact, there are now more than 40 employees at Bonhomme à lunettes, running nearly 75 services points. We figured if we're going to welcome our new opticians, we might as well take a moment to introduce them to you!
Julie Chiasson, the Double Rookie
Yes, Julie is double rookie. She's just started working at Bonhomme à lunettes, but she's also just graduated from three years of college as an optician.
It's not her first degree however. Julie studied communications at the turn of the 2000s, before landing in the restaurant business. For almost 20 years, she worked for companies from here and abroad, mainly as a manager, even becoming a territory manager. However, despite a successful career, something was missing. She wanted to help people. After much reflection, she decided to reorient her career and chose the Orthèses Visuelles degree.
During her studies, she researched the issue of access to glasses (more on this later). Unfortunately, she found that around one in two marginalized people went without glasses for lack of means. Those familiar with our history will know that Philippe, our founder, also came to a similar conclusion early in his career.
You can guess the rest. Julie went for an interview at a certain community eyewear store, whose mission is to make the purchase of glasses accessible to all. Things clicked, objectives were aligned and Julie was officially integrated into the team, becoming a fairly experienced new recruit.
Matthieu Dobrosielski, The Optician Who Can't Stay Put
Our second newcomer is Matthieu (with two T's please!), who has been an optician since 2008, and is, it seems, absolutely incapable of staying put. In addition to his native France, Matthieu has worked in Mali (West Africa) and Guyana (South America).
Clearly, that wasn't enough, as he then decided to settle in Quebec. After working at Lunetterie Milot, he tried his luck at Bonhomme à lunettes. Unfortunately, we weren't hiring at the time. Matthieu simply drove to Quebec City to join Le Marchand de lunettes, a company inspired by ours and founded by a former employee.
The notion of community eyewear still speaks to him today, since after 6 years in La Capitale Nationale, he moved back there to finally join our team. Matthieu no longer needs a suitcase, at least for the time being, but he's been combing the length and breadth of Montreal since his arrival: Côte-des-Neiges, Pointe-aux-Trembles, Montréal-Nord, Ville-Marie and more.
Welcome to our two new opticians. We're delighted to have you with us!
